In “The Strange Case of Dr.Jekyll and Mr.Hyde, the character I am most drawn to by far is Dr.Jekyll. The reason why is because he is very mysterious and gives a twist to the story. His character gives away a different feel then the others. He often hides away in his home, staying distant from the ones he is close with. Dr.Jekyll has many mood changes throughout different times in the story. For example, he becomes friendly and sociable again and has many dinner parties while having a great time. Dr. Jekyll began a new fresh life after the disappearance of Mr.Hyde, but that only lasted for more than two months. After that Dr. Jekyll refused to see anyone again. There are many other ways his mood has changed. He would be the happiest person in the world and then other times he would be mysterious and rude. I believe that Stevensen is trying to say people’s mood changes when science increases, and also others can be scared of one another’s friends.
Yes I agree with you. Dr. Jekyll is the most mysterious characters in this book. Also you are right when you say that Dr. Jekyll changes moods a lot. Also he doesn't talk about his problems to anyone. But then again he locks himself in his room all the time.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I agree with you and its true that Jekyll is the weirdest and interesting character. Just like Sanchez said he changes moods a lot just the way when he was talking with Utterson through the window one second happy the next shock as if he got stung by a bee.
ReplyDeleteCassie, this was really well written. You brought up a few good points about Dr. Jekyll being an interesting character. He is in fact someone I am drawn to as well and his frequent mood changes. I think those are the best thing about him; how he can go from being happy to mad in a split second. Moments like this in the story make me question his relationship with Mr. Hyde. The two characters share the angry quality and I feel they might share other qualities as well. I guess we will just have to find out!
ReplyDeleteThis back and forth nature of Dr. Jekyll might be Stevenson's way of hinting at how unpredictable something was in his society. He is a man of science. Science constantly changes and evolves life as we know it. Maybe he represents that unpredicatability of Science?
ReplyDeleteYour post really made me think that friendships and science back then werent so diffrent from now. Sometimes i'm not sure if i should fear what my friends might do or not. And even in the 21st century scinece can still uncoever some really scary things. Overall it just made me think that somethings just wount change, and maybe they never will. Good Job!
